Set just behind Chapel Street in an enclave of boutiques that used to house an antique scale store, Lb (that's pronounced 'pound' for you metric-era youngsters) is a hot breakfast spot for models, footballers and the rest of South Yarra's hip young things. Jazzy beats, wooden bar stools and red cushioned walls give this place the attitude of a funky bar, while the crate-style curbside seating and smell of fresh coffee grounds announce it as weekend breakfast destination.
Quietly serving up consistently good quality coffee and cafe fare to locals for the past five years, Lb has gained recent notoriety with its popular all-day breakfast menu. Think such beyond-bacon dishes as bircher muesli with rhubarb compote; the signature 'berry bomba' with yoghurt, honey and toasted almonds; and the unique 'train smash' - an egg spaghetti brekkie. The service here is friendly, but don't count on having a deep and meaningful conversation with your waiter; this place is hectically busy most of the time, drawing particularly steady crowds at lunchtimes. They're coming for the wraps, which are made with Greek, Middle Eastern, Italian and even Cajun-style flavours. Try the 'vaca pide', which features a Mexican beef pattie with tasty cheese, jalapenos, sour cream and rocket.
