On one side of Laurent are some of the city's oldest Victorian terraces, most of which are maintained and groomed with the same effort as prized poodles. Around the other side you'll see the thick light posts of the MCG poking out from behind Jolimont Station—so if you can take your eyes off the glazed strawberries that almost conceal a creamy custard base on the tarte aux fraises, Laurent has a view for you. For a more restrained snack, check the array of croissants, pains au chocolat, brioches and danishes on offer. But don't be surprised if you wander back to the majestic cakes and tarts on display. Particularly delicious is the tarte aux fruits de la passion. It masquerades as a simple custard tart, but once bitten into will remind all tasters of how perfectly named passionfruit is.
