After 18 years of family training, Latasha had mastered the art of traditional, home-style, southern Indian curries. Resisting any temptation to tailor her original recipes to suit the Western palate, her creations are just as spicy and deliciously light in texture as the dishes her mother used to make. She's also successfully converted her customers to appreciate the flavour of meat cooked on the bone - her recipe for red pork fry (mild vindaloo) and sambhar. There are 12 freshly prepared dishes to choose from each day - sometimes as many as 20 on Saturdays - alongside savoury nibbles, Indian sweets and Latasha's own-made pickles, chutneys and relishes. Making her own yogurt with whole milk, she creates a deliciously refreshing mango lassi. Should you require a tonic to soothe your tongue after the meal, a glass of teh tarik (pulled tea) should do the trick.

Why you should send your guests to Perth?
One of the things we have missed since leaving Perth for Sydney is a really good Indian restaurant. When Latasha's Kitchen opened it was like being back in India on our holidays. The food is simple, fragrant and fresh. There is not skimping on the flavours in any of the dishes. In our visits to Perth we always visit this eatery as it is unpretentious and have a wonderfully friendly and homely feel to it. It will never make the top Michellin starred restaurant list of the world but it is a damn good example of the sort of traditional foods you would be swamped with while travelling in India (at least in the south).
What sets this eatery apart from other Indian restaurants is that you are presented with home cooked dishes with discernable ingredients and a balance of spices that allows each to be distinguished as the flow over the palate.
We are now dedicated to ensuring that all of our friends on the east coast and those international guests we host from time to time do make the trip over to Perth just to sit down on a hot Summer evening with a beer or chilled Prosecco (it goes very well with the spicy food).
Every city has its gem. Latasha's Kitchen is one of a number in Perth to make the grade.

Quick lunch on the go
I popped in for a quick takeaway lunch today. I was so disappointed that I didn't have time to dine in as the aromas that I could smell were fantastic. My takeaway was great. Everyone back at the office was very envious of my choice. Next time, I will make the time to sit and eat in. Then I will really be able to take in the full experience.

It is just fab!
I went there on a friend's tip that I would get simply good South Indian food. Turned out, I and my three friends had the best curries ever in Perth. We had samosas and curry puffs for starters. Then rice and breads with lamb peratal - which was outstanding with the meat falling off the bone without disintegrating -sambar (a lentil dish) and a mouth-watering mixed veg dish called avial. The dishes were reasonably priced, hot but very tasty. For desserts, we had a selection of Indian sweets and mango lassi to boot. A great food experience.

Best place for a quick curry
I eat here about once a week, it's just down from the office and it's a great place to get a quick curry, the menu is always changing and it's a step away from the normal curries that you can get, especially on the vegetarian side. The cabbage and tofu dish sounds terrible and tastes amazing, that's a good sign. Service is pretty much not a relevant point, and along with the atmosphere it's cheap and cheerful, but I don't think that's what anyone is there for!
