THE BEST INDIAN FOOD OUTSIDE BRICK LANE IN LONDON
Being a Pom, (English) I take my curry very seriously and even though Australia is a wonderful place I have found Indian restaurants in Manly average to poor and on occasions a disgrace............until I found Last Train. Incredibly busy, with a jovial atmosphere and attentive waiters all too happy to explain the menu with a smile on their face. But we were here for the food and I had the best butter chicken on record, the condiments, naan, popadums and rice were special and the sag aloo divine. For a starter we had a yogurt chicken dish and a lamb chop type dish, which was exquisite. If you live within an hour of this restaurant give it a try and I promise you you'll be back again and again.

This is the third time this month I have been to or had takeaway from this restaurant. On the first occasion, the food was really good. We selected a banquet. The butter chicken was the best I had tasted and the other meals were really nice without being too hot. We also had a vegetable dish, a lamb curry and rogan josh beef curry as mains. It’s the service which seems to be a bit inconsistent here. One waiter told us that we could come back for as much as we could eat, which was contradicted by another who said what we had on our table was all we were entitled to. When it was finally clarified that we could have had more, we had already finished. We felt a little bit ripped off, but the desserts were excellent and cheap. We came back for another banquet, now aware that we could have as much as we wanted for $22.90 (with cheap entree, but excluding drinks and dessert). The meals were dished up after about half an hour and the vessels holding the food were less than half full with very little sauce. This time, the food was not as good either - perhaps a different chef. We asked for the side dish of condiments, etc, which we had been given on the previous banquet. These were not offered this time or given when asked. I would suggest that a banquet was not a good option. Service, quality and quantity of food was, we found, rather inconsistent. I would be prepared to give this place another try because of the potentially excellent food. Recommended with reservations.
