Local culinary legend Kate Lamont has chosen a divine location for her Margaret River restaurant. Perched over the banks of a lake, this contemporary country retreat offers a tranquil setting for a session of food and wine indulgence. Executive chef Jim Mailes - previously of Wise Wines and Flutes - takes diners on a journey through the region's premium produce with a menu custom-made to match Lamont's own wines. Mailes's full breakfast provides a hearty start to a full day's wine tasting, while the mid-morning tapas menu offers an excellent excuse to linger on the restaurant's shady deck. The lunch and dinner menus change regularly but almost always feature the signature Pemberton marron and Lamont's own-recipe pavlova with double cream and seasonal fruits. A bonus for vegetarian diners is the separate meatless menu. Meanwhile, wine fanatics and avid foodies alike will be inspired by Kate Lamont's informative series of classes, which run throughout the year.

Better than Tinned Tomatoes
Whilst visiting my father who lives in Bunbury I decided to drive to Lamont's for lunch as I know that he likes the setting which is beautifully positioned adjacent to a lake and a very nice Gallery.
To set the scene one must understand that my father doesn't really have a palate. He is perfectly content eating tinned tomatoes straight from the can and the best he can come up with under most circumstances is "it's all-right".
Irrespective of whether the food is disgusting and unfit for human consumption or brilliant he wolfs it down with zero comment.
My father also never orders - so I almost always order fish if it is on the menu which I know he likes.
This visit there was no fish on the menu and with great trepidation I was forced to order a number of entree's in the hope that some would meet with approval.
The food was simply stunning! Every dish was perfect and met with effusive praise from my father - which as he has never said this before in all of his 80 odd years is about the highest compliment I can imagine. It was also the best lunch I have ever had.
The coffee was excellent - the atmosphere is almost unbeatable unless one requires sea views - and the value for money is high especially considering the quality

Picture perfect!
Fantastic setting overlooking lake. Service fantastic. Food outstanding. Had to wait an extra 15-20 mins on one meal - duck, only so they had it cooked to perfection! Value for money and the wine was amazing. Do yourself a favour and get down there!
