La Via

The dish already delighting patrons at this newly-opened Italian restaurant is the orrechiette pasta with confit duck leg and bread crumbs, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. There's also pizzas on offer with a variety of toppings to choose from, and with a traditional thin crust to keep aficionados happy. For something a little more soulful, white beef ragu over papadelle is another much-talked about favourite. For dessert, the honey and macadamia semifreddo offers a sweet - and cool - end to a meal.

Worth many a visit
Happened upon La Via some weeks ago when looking for a lunch spot. So impressed with food, wine and service that I've been very keen to return. Did so last Monday night with four friends. We shared three serves of the calamari fritti for starters , and all gave it a big thumbs up - not a Bridgestone product - tender and full of flavour. My companions all went for different pizzas and declared them "top shelf". I had the fish main - crispy skinned market fish, white fish canneloni, bug tails (two)with a seafood bisque sauce and baby fennel. A generous serving of delicious flavours - undoubtedly one of the best meals I have had anywhere. I plan to return to work my way through the entire menu, and to take different friends/family members each time, though it seems this place is not hanging out for customers. At 7.30 last Monday the place was full and people were waiting outside. A very Crown Street, Surry Hills phenomenon! Food excellent; a busy wine list(Australian and Italian) with plenty of choice, many by the glass and reasonably priced; ambience just right; service friendly and efficient; value for money second to none. Don't just take my word for it!

Loved it, great food, great wine, great service, relaxed environment
This was my fourth time back to La Via, and impressed yet again. I'm slowly making my way through the menu, with this visit's choice being the stuffed zucchini flowers for entre (very nice) and the pork sausage pizza for main, which has definitely become an instant favourite. The base was light and cooked to perfection, and the toppings were flavoursome and complementary.

Some nice beers and decent Italian wines to explore topped it all off, with the service being friendly, relaxed and attentive.

In short, looking forward to my future visits to La Via.

Not the best
I chose the potato, pancetta and rosemary pizza. When it arrived it looked very uninteresting. Upon tasting I discovered how oily the centre was and how bland and dry the outer was. There was barely any pancetta on there. Not enough to list it in the title ingredients. Certainly not passable as a main dish, but possibly ok for a shared starter. More like an oiled bread than a pizza. The man at the counter blamed it on the ingredients saying that's just how it is. Well that's not acceptable. Not well put together at all. If I ever eat there again I will certainly bypass the pizza and try something else.
The wine was good!

Like the pizza bases
Real thin and crispy. Just a bit burnt and interesting toppings. Good report on the pasta from teenage son - no tasting permitted - he must have enjoyed it. Shame they don't/can't validate parking.
