Owner Tony Cattafi has over 30 years experience serving his customers on Lygon Street. Besides the warm interior, surrounded by wood and the pungent, mouthwatering smell of the kitchen (and let's be honest, Lygon St was made for outdoor dining), La Spaghettata has several environs to choose from. Out front there is a portico melded with a hanging garden, replete with trellis, ivy, greenery, white tablecloths and the bustle of waiters. There is also the mandatory pavement dining, with plenty of well-heated tables affording a view all the way down the light-sprinkled street. Upstairs is another outdoor terrace overlooking the street which can be booked privately. As for the menu, the prices here are about average for this end of the street. Italian, of course, it also has distinct seafood leanings. For the extravagant, the mixed grill is both comprehensive and delicious, taking in scampi, king prawns, mussels, oysters, calamari and scallops, all for $110 (for two). This is a perfect first date restaurant, with all the right touches.

Awesome food -great vibe
I have tried out various restaurants in Carlton and this one is definitely one of my favourites. The waiters are friendly. The place has a family pasta house feel. The food is delicious. The food isn't as overpriced as other restaurants on Lygon Street. Great place.

Spaghetti only
La Spaghettata is fantastic for pasta. All pasta is homemade, entree size is enough for most people. Usually order a salad and two pastas, and have not as yet tried dessert (have never had enough room left!).
Service has been excellent every time I've been (5 times in 2007); even on packed-out nights, they have found us a table, and we were served quickly enough. Always treated like old friends.

Lukewarm Service and Food
I am never eating in Lygon Street again!! I am sick of the hawking that goes on outside each restaurant along this street. We had dinner there on a Saturday night and the food was lukewarm and the service was poor.
The meal we ordered came out to us minus a few ingredients that were stated on their menu. The couple next to us ordered the same meal and it was also brought out to them with missing ingredients!!
I am very disappointed with the whole experience and will in future steer clear of Lygon Street the next time I am in Melbourne.
