You may not be bowled over by the decor, but the food, the ambience and the service will impress you quickly. La Scala is perfect for pasta, bruschetta and other known authentic Italian meals. Good wine list to complement the cuisine is also on offer.

impressed!
We dined at La Scala as a party of 8 and were all inpressed with the food.
We shared some mixed entree's for starters in the middle, then we all chose our main course. The mains all stood out. My veal cutlet was outstanding. The steak eaters at the table were also mightly impressed. Make sure to leave room for desserts, as the dessert menu is very well written and makes you want to order. This turned out to be a good thing as some of us found out.
My one disapointment is that there simply wasn't enough room for all our entrees on the table. The breads and drinks took most of the room. Bigger tables would be welcomed.
Other than that, the service was thoughtful. Our waiter was quite attentive and charming when he came around, but our young waitress was a bit lost at times.
I will definitely go back. A very enjoiable evening.

has been patchy over the years but currently good!
I've been to La Scala every few years over the past 20 and have had some disappointing experiences, but the current food and service is good. The eye fillet steak in particular was the best I've had. 'Seasonal vegetables' was a generous term for a few stringbeans and a potato and the asparagus side serve was overcooked and the wine by the glass options were pricey...but these are relatively minor complaints and the overall experience was a good one.

Long, forgotten meal & poor service!
We dined with 6 people + an infant and they were fully booked. After waiting 2 hours for our mains, it was discovered that one of them was left off our order and not prepared. Another waitress blamed the trainee waitress who took the order, which did not impress us! We were told that our meals were slow because they were busy and 2 people at our table ordered entrees (a challenge that restaurants need to manage). Due to eating with an infant, we booked our table for 6pm so we could order and be out before the bulk of tables. Unfortunately this did not happen. We were not impressed and had to leave our friends before dessert. La Scala did not charge for the forgotten meal but this did not make up for the poor service.

Average meal saved by dessert surprise
The menu seemed quite unique and adventurous... I selected the old fashioned favourite - pasta carbonara. Over-sized potions evened out the price of the dish - about $22, but not a bad meal. Everyone seemed content with what they ordered.
The service could be improved, we were asked for our drink orders promptly and it took a long time for the bill.
When booking, we advised it was for my sister's birthday, and they came out with a nice birthday dessert for her.

Bad Wine experience at La Scala
The food at La Scala is nothing short of brilliant and the service is equally good. However when it came to wine the experience was akin to participating in a Fawlty Towers episode. The first two wines selected to go with our meal were unavailable; the third choice was more upmarket pricewise but acceptable. The second bottle of our third wine choice was corked and the replacement bottle was also corked. We were advised we could try a more expensive wine. We declined as we had by that stage finished our main course. When we registered a complaint we were informed it wasn't the fault of the restaurant. An earlier meal at La Scala with a similar problem with the wine would suggest that the restaurant does have a problem. We'll eat there again but drink their excellent water with the meal.

What a great great restaurant
Having recently moved to Canberra, we were so pleased at having discovered La Scala so quickly. We had a great time. The food was exceptional, with my favourites being the duck livers and the slow-cooked lamb rack. (The best lamb I have ever tasted). The service and atmosphere were very good too. They were quite busy on the night, the service remained attentive and professional (with some personality to boot). Thank you. We will be back often! Ps. what desserts! The strawberry princess has to be seen and eaten to be believed.

First in last out..... If you want a long drawn out dinner eat here.
The food was outstanding, however if the service was half as good as the food then I might have considered returning to this restaurant. My party was the first seated and given a nice window seat (the furthest away from the main area). We spent approximately 1 hour sitting around waiting to be either served, or for the meals to front up. After seeing 6 other parties enter the premises after us, be served (both mains and dessert), pay for their bills and leave, it was getting beyond a joke. It shouldn't take 40 minutes to order a dessert and then have it served, as well as another 30 minutes to wait for your bill to arrive. The window seats aren't the best to sit at for this restaurant as it seems that out of sight out of mind fits well for this restaurant.
With all this said and done I would like to thank the chef for a outstanding meal.
