La Kasbah Licenced Restaurant

The North African influence on this restaurant is clearly visible from the interior decor, which combines elements of a Moroccan bazaar with the occasional gyrations of an enthusiastic belly dancer. But the menu is not so simple. Dukkah spices, tagines and couscous are present as anticipated, but they are unexpectedly joined by such French classics as coq au vin and duck a l'orange.

Best Restaurant in Brisbane!
We went there for Christmas day and it was the most beautiful and unforgettable experience!
The restaurant was very busy but the staff were very caring and absolutely professional!
They had a special menu and we had for entrees: Foie gras, to die for! Seafood platter, French style, oh my god absolutely fresh and delicious and the smoked salmon with a rocket salad was amazing! For mains we had the quails with onions and fig marmalade, rabbit with prunes, orange duck with fresh fruits, so delicious!!! Mouloukhia their unique dish, so different but so amazing...
For dessert we had an amazing strawberry with orange water and a gorgeous fruit platter.
I have to say that the food, the service, the atmosphere and the generosity of the owners made my night the most beautiful and the most unforgettable.
Thank you La Kasbah I will never forget you and I highly recommend this restaurant.

Frost bite
We went to this place after hearing some good reviews from friends. We didn't get any service for at least 10 minutes after arrival. The two wait staff were busy with the three other tables already seated. We sat there for a while with no menus. The waiting staff were very friendly and enthusiastic when they finally arrived. We had the same problem of not having dishes available after picking our choices and had to look through the menu again. Anyhow, the wait for food was also considerable. I ordered a chicken tajine, when it arrived I sensed that the chicken was cold, and true enough when I put my knife to it, the meat was frozen. I understand that they probably precooked all the tajine and casserole dishes, but to serve them up frozen to customers is unforgivable. It was taken back to be microwaved very apologetically. The food tasted fine when the temperature was corrected. I was too put off to order dessert. I was not happy that they didn't even offer us coffee on the house. The service was friendly, but we won't be going back.

La Kasbah
Honestly it is 'the' restaurant! As soon as my partner, 2 friends and myself walked in, we felt the warmness and the comfort, the decor is truly gorgeous, the staff are really nice, the music is really amazing!
They have a great selection of wine, we ordered a great French one at a very good price. A very charming waiter, actually i think the owner served our table, he really made us feel special and as we looked at the other tables he was making sure that everyone in the restaurant was enjoying themselves.
We felt really comfy from the beginning.
I must say that they have a great menu, a bit of French and mostly Tunisian. We never had that type of cuisine before so 3 of us went for Tunisian and 1 had the rabbit. If you like bunnies, then try that one, the sauce is "Oh my God" delicious!
I must say we shared all our dishes and it's really amazing! We had briques, Tunisian salad, carrot dip and hummus dip (best hummus I have ever had by the way), then for mains we had lamb shank, chicken honey and some unique dish from the South of Tunisia, i think it's called Mouloukia!? Everything was honestly the best food we have ever had for a long time, the flavors, the taste... Really amazing food! Then for dessert we had Tunisian sweets and Tunisian coffees, wonderful!
I will never forget that experience and i will always go back to La Kasbah, the really amazing restaurant!

Just ok, and a little bit weird
There were 2 of us dining. Two of our choices on the menu were unavailable (apparently there are 'no bunnies in qld' at the moment). The escargot was ok, and the mains (duck for my partner, I had the sea scallops) tasted nice enough but certainly weren't worth the price. And I'm pretty sure we got charged $5 per (tiny) glass of coke. We were given complimentary spicy pizza bread and they did ask us a couple of times how everything was going, so it wasn't 'terrible', just a bit odd. They are obviously trying but just haven't got it together.

Terrible
Unfortunately I have to say last night I had the worst dining experience I can remember for a long long time. Previously I had heard many good reports about Le Kasbah, particularly in terms of how great the food is.
After being told there were 4 dishes on the menu which were unavailable, my partner and I ordered what sounded like delicious, traditional dishes. I must say as soon as the meals arrived, my initial anticipation began to wane. The presentation of both dishes left a lot to be desired, as did the service from the 2 wait staff. This disappointment was nothing though compared to the actual taste of the food offered. Considering the price of the 2 dishes, I would have thought a bowl which consisted of an oily, watery and bland sauce which covered the pigeon-size chicken leg (all bone) would have been the last thing served up to us!

Teething problems have mostly disappeared
My second visit tonight was several months since the first time I had been there. Since the new owners have taken over last July 2006, in 2007 the food and service has improved dramatically. Whereas the main courses were awfully bland in the past and the service extremely sloppy, the tagine and mechoui dishes we ordered were bursting with rich, sublime flavours. Service had some slip-ups, but was polite and friendly.

This restaurant has an extensive menu, covering both French and Tunisian specialties, decent portions and reasonably priced too. Special couscous dishes may be ordered with prior notice. One of a kind in Brisbane. Highly recommended.

Big Group / Great Atmosphere / Staff Still Needs some Work
We had a great time on a not so busy Friday night. The atmosphere is great, the belly dancing girl is fabulous. Drinks delivery and service was very slow, although we did have a group of 10. The food was good, regional speciality entrees were fantastic. The mains seemed like standard Australian fare, with a little extra pepper.

Well-presented with a good atmosphere and friendly people. Kid-friendly, gave my son a toy camel to play with. Possibly the best service we have ever had in a restaurant, the waitress was always there even when it got busier. We thoroughly enjoyed our entrees of goat's cheese and salmon pyramid and fish escabesche which were very unusual and highly flavoured. My 11 yo thought the snails were pretty good too and had 2 servings. By contrast the mains were a little bland, the seafood tajine lacking something, and the saudi chicken had a delicious sauce but not enough of it to flavour the chicken. But the entrees and service were so good we will go back and try some other things.
