Racine at La Colline vineyard is an essential stop on any culinary trip to Orange. Willa McDuie and her partner Shaun Arantz (formerly of the School House) now run the restaurant at this famous Orange vineyard. Chef Arantz's provincial French menu draws heavily from the abundance of seasonal produce in the Orange area; he even sources Granny Smith apples from his mum's garden.
Patrons can start the meal with an ethereal chicken liver parfait with piccalli vegetables, or perhaps a scallop and celery lasagne. Main dishes are sure to please and include a twice cooked pork belly with cabbage, carrot, apple coleslaw, pomegranate, and pork consomme - a shining beacon of how local produce and deft culinary skill combine with delightful results.
Finishing on a sweet note, desserts are another fine example of deft execution in the kitchen with delicacies such as orange panna cotta combing poached fig, ginger compote and orange biscotti.
