La Botte D'Oro

A true stalwart of the Leichhardt dining scene, La Botte D'Oro feels just like an authentic Italian trattoria thanks to father and son duo Memmo and David Perini. Away from the hustle and bustle of Norton Street, La Botte has thrived since its first day back in 1977, and continues to impress its regular clientele with classic and contemporary fare in its antipasto platters, woodfired pizzas and saucy pastas. The pizzas are an obvious highlight, like the tasty triple-cheese 'Fromage a Trois', featuring mozzarella, gorgonzola and fontina. Sauce lovers can soak up the flavours of appetising pasta, meat and seafood dishes including fine veal in Marsala sauce, mussels in tomato sauce and pepper steak. The brave and hungry can taste it all with the jam-packed set menus.

bad food not fit for a $10 pub meal
We tried this place out last night when a nearby restaurant was closed. It's been there ages and there were lots of people inside - a good sign.

The food wasn't just bad, it was embarrassing. Insalada caprese with dried basil ($12), overcooked grisly veal parmagiana and how-do-you-manage-to-stuff-up-a-fettucini-boscaiola? ($20 each) All with the refreshing aroma of display counter fish going off in the absence of ice.

The worst part was there was nothing to suggest the problem was a one-off - the problems were inherent to the recipes. Bland is generous.

I would have been disappointed with that for a 10 dollar pub grub meal.
