Over-rated
Recently dined at LA Beach after reading "rave" reviews in NT News dining guide. Upon late arrival we were seated quickly and the service was really efficient, friendly enough. Ordered 3 types of oysters, soy and ginger were way too salty, perhaps a light soy would have been a better choice than a dark. Oysters mornay were fine, and the lime and chive ones were gorgeous, cool and just a perfect condiment to the lovely fresh oysters. however the mains were disappointing both in price and execution. The rack of lamb was ordinary so too the vegetables, and the moreton Bay bugs were overcooked and over-priced @$52 for a main serving .Prior to ordering I asked the waiter if we had to dig them out of the shell or were they merely placed back in for presentation. Placed in for presentation we were told, which they were only halved and certainly not 'placed' back in their shells, overall a pleasant enough meal but at $180 dollars for oysters and 2 mains, a mediocre bottle of wine and 2 scotch and cokes, at the high end of pricing and definetly no repeat business required.:-(

Good menu choices
We went here for something a little different and were pleased to find some interesting things on the menu, although it would have been nice to see a couple of slightly more wallet-friendly wines by the glass.
The warm 'La Beach' oysters were fantastic - a taste that really worked well.
The seafood mornay was good, but be prepared for a lot of cheese with that one! The barramundi in Pernod cream sauce was very tasty.
Try to get there in time for the beautiful sunset and watch it with a 'La Beach sunset' cocktail.

Good Seafood
Good atmosphere, watching the sunset and drinking some wine. The food is good without being wonderfully exciting, though the seafood mornay was spoilt by tough rubbery scallops. Servings were a good size with reasonable prices. The wine selection was middle of the range. The staff were friendly and quite good. Overall rating is good, with nice views.
