A Sad Fall
I first ate here a little over a year ago, and it was AMAZING, i thought for sure kouzina was the next pressclub...
i am not sure if there are new owners or a new chef, but something went bad.
The food, while cheap, tastes like the poor quality ingredients, and little skill in the kitchen.
It is outter subburban food, in melbourne 'fine dining precinct' the whole place feels very confused
pastas and fish and chips on a GREEK menu?

a very sad fall for what could have been great,
don't recommend

Mother's day set menus
We decided to take a Greek theme for Mothers day and Kouzina was chosen for its prime location. Great view and the atmosphere was perfect. The only failure was the food as service was friendly. The food wasn't happening for us.

Burnt oily pita was brought to the table with 1 tablespoon of 4 dips. The salt/pepper calamari was crumbed/seasoned way too much. Spanakopita not bad kinda liked it.

Mixed grill platter well, overcooked lamb cutlets had burnt bits on it. Lamb souvlaki was dry, I didn't try the rest as left a bad taste.

Dessert was a nice bougatsa which we all had to share a little piece.

Maybe other times it's better but I don't think Kouzina excels in set menus.

the suburbs come to the city
Looking for another option for quite dinner of small plates we tried Kouzina.
Unfortunately its middle suburban roots showed. While the service was friendly, the waiting staff didnt have the training nor knowledge reqd for a snappy dining experience. And the food & wine was average - not bad but just nothing exciting enough to want you to go back.
Is Kouzina a reflection on Southbank's dining direction?, great views but average food, wine & service? It is certainly a long way behind its predecessor & the new Crown dining direction.

Kouzina
I went to Kouzina with a friend who wanted a "taste of Greece". Greek food is not on the top of my list for great dining experiences so I went reluctantly. Did I have something to learn!!
We choose the lunch special (two courses for $29) and that included a basket of breads and a meze plate as starters. Each of us had a melt-in-the-mouth lamb filo pie, spanakopita cigar with olive tapenade and some marinated octopus. Delicious. There were two mains: a seafood plate and a meat plate. Olivia went for the meat that had three dishes featuring lamb, pork and chicken. I had two succulent katafi-wrapped prawns on a zucchini pancake, harissa-spiced calamari with almond skordalia and a generous piece of Atlantic salmon on horta. These came with bowls of lemonata potatoes and a Greek salad. The presentation of every dish was a knockout as was the food and we did not need dinner that night.
The restaurant is new, the staff friendly and we sat on the deck overlooking the Yarra and could have been in Europe.
There were not many people there the day we visited and we were told they get more at dinner. I hope this will change soon for this is an asset to Southbank and to Melbourne. I can't wait to introduce my husband to it.
