A little more upmarket than most Korean restaurants, the Palace serves some of the more unusual national dishes. The menu features pages of spicy soups, noodles, barbecues, banquets and even a vegetarian set menu. Be warned: there's plenty of chilli to make your eyes water in that oh-so-delicious way! And with that fire in your belly, head upstairs and live out your pop star dreams in the karaoke bar. Sample the Korean rice liquor.

So close to Flower Drum (physically), and yet so far away...
We arrived at the Palace with high hopes, having read that the food was fantastic and that the atmosphere is great.
Unfortunately, when we arrived we waited for 5 minutes at the door before we were seated. This was unacceptable, especially since there were 3 waitresses, and only 2 other tables to be waited on. To make matters worse, they didn't ask if we wanted any drinks, or even take our order for over 20 minutes. Only when we waved for service did a young lady come to our table. After this, we requested that the wine be put in an ice bucket, and after some motioning with the hands they managed to understand that we wanted a bucket...they didn't seem to understand that the bucket should be filled with ice.
Alright, fine, I'm happy to deal with poor service, as long as the food is good...
But the food was terrible. I have been to 3 Korean restaurants in the last month and this is by far the worst. For an entree we ordered the Korean pancake. Which would have been good, had it not been dripping with grease. For our mains, we ordered barbecue beef and chicken. Which should be difficult to get wrong, if you ask me. The cuts of beef were of the lowest quality, which is hard to imagine, especially since we live in a country where there are more cows than people...no excuse for cheap beef! The chicken dish was a little better (still extremely greasy), though it would probably be more accurate to describe it as barbecue cabbage with chicken.
Overall the experience was terrible, the staff were incompetent and the food was nothing short of pathetic. The atmosphere was cold and empty, nothing like the picture displayed above.
Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

top korean experience in melbourne
In terms of authentic korean food, bbq and other traditional dishes this has to be the best place in melbourne. while service isn't the flower drum (which is across the lane incidentally) the food more than makes up for it...clean and stylish interior with soft background music makes for a great dining experience. korean food is something you need to try at least once in your life so why not here

Good food, not so good service
This place has great Korean food, particularly BBQ, but also starters like fried dumplings and main courses. Unfortunately, we brought wine but the waitress didn't seem to know how to open the bottle so we opened all our bottles ourselves, but they still charged us $5 corkage per bottle. The place is not particularly pretty either, cold and somewhat impersonal. However, the food is really very good, so if you can overlook the service and the atmosphere, it's fine.

Delicious
Impressive taste with impeccable service. Good quality with pleasing presentation. Although slighty pricy, the food is definitely worth every cent.
