Bearing in mind the incongruous nature of an ode to Eire in the middle of steamy, tropical Darwin, the ambience and furnishings here are more 'Irish lite', than a full on Gaelic celebration. There's a nod to your typical Irish pub decor in the dark wood, green highlights, glowing Guinness signs and the odd shamrock, but as soon as you walk out the front door to the outdoor dining area any thoughts of Ireland fade. No amount of green paint can cancel out the warm tropical air and potted palms.
There's Guinness pie on the menu at Kitty O'Shea's, but that's about where the stereotypical Irish fare starts and ends. The kitchen offers a simple 'meat and three veg' style pub menu, with reasonably priced pub grub classics dominating. There is a choice of fish 'n' chips, burgers, steak and schnitzel, as well as a couple of salad wraps and sandwiches on offer - though if you're looking for a really healthy option, you probably won't find it here. This hearty fare is matched with the obligatory Guinness on tap and a selection of Australian wines.
