With its on-site microbrewery and a kitchen that takes its food very, very seriously the King St Brewhouse has raised the bar for all gastro-pubs from here on in.
KSB has retained much of its appeal from the former incarnation as the James Squire Brewhouse - the rustic charms and colonial motif still dominate - but where the real change has come is in the kitchen: it may be called a brewhouse but the food here plays second fiddle to no-one.
Expect a menu that takes its culinary cues from classical French technique as much as modern Australian. You could just as easily kick off a meal with chicken liver parfait as you could with a dozen fresh Sydney rock oysters. The rest of the menu then meanders through pasta, vegetarian and vegan, seafood and meat dishes before culminating with a lengthy selection of beef cuts from the grill. It's an extensive menu, made doubly impressive by the fact that not once does the quality or consistency drop in offering up so much versatility.
