King of Kings has been serving yum cha to Brisbanites for more than 20 years, so it's safe to assume they're doing something right. In fact, the yum cha served up at this unassuming Fortitude Valley eatery is so good that devout Christians have been known to forgive the apparent blasphemy of using their lord and saviour's moniker to sell small plates of Chinese food.
Be warned, 20 years of producing great yum cha means that King of Kings is no secret, so if you head in here for lunch prepare for the rest of Fortitude Valley to have the same idea. However, if the hustle and bustle doesn't deter you, the barbecue pork buns and deep-fried king prawn balls are well worth fighting the crowds for.

King of yum!
Have eaten at King of Kings many times and just wanted to stipulate how great the service is, the food is prompt and how tasty it is. Have been for both dinner and for Yum Cha lunch and is the most authentic Chinese food I have tasted in QLD. Ate till we could eat no more, and only came to $35 for the both of us! If you are looking for good chinese cuisine I couldn't recommend it highly enough!

Recently I went twice for yum cha. Yes, the location is convenient, but the second chance didn't work either. Limited dishes being wheeled around without change, that cater for the ignorant westerners who don't know what real yum cha is about, and don't know what they're missing. I remember how much better it was 5 years ago, but now no real simple and authentic Chinese dishes such as niu za. Maybe the owners could take a trip to Melbourne where it's so easy to get the real stuff! I know the range in Brissie is limited, but this one no longer deserves support - it has outlived its ranking.

Not very impressed
The food was nice enough, but it was just a shambles trying to get it to the table. We were in a group of 8 and all our meals came at different times. Some people were finished before others even got their food. And we had to ask to get the rice to go with our food and had to ask even to get our plates cleared from the table in between the entree and main. These are simple thing swhich any restaurant should be able to deliver. Fast service and everyone having hot meal at the same time is very simple.

Really has an opportunity
Good side, prawn dumplings lots of options and dim sims well made (but could been from the supermarket.. No problem they were nice)
Bad side - I have been eating BBQ pork for about 20 years now - firstly the cost was very high for a yum cha at $8.50 plus it was very dry. The egg tarts had been over cooked and pastry was hard. Service was fast but we felt over rushed (we only spent 55mins there!).
Overall I love my yum cha and I have had it in most major cities around the world. King of Kings really have long way to go but after 20 years in service I would have expected something much better.

Perhaps the most overrated yum cha in Brisbane?
I don't understand how people could claim this place serves the best yum cha in Brisbane. King of Kings used to be good ages ago, but it's gradual downward spiral in terms quality, has been a well-known fact among most of the local Chinese community in Brisbane who are in the know. I don't like eating clumsy and crudely-made dumplings that are the size of a tennis ball each, for one.

Way off the mark...
I just have to say that since being introduced to King of Kings last year, I have been going regularly ever since. If you go at around 11am and stay for an hour or two you get a good seat and all the variety that you want. It doesn't hurt to ask the staff if you want something in particular. They are always happy to help.

M.L. could be right
We were sorely disappointed with the yum cha at King of Kings. There was very little variety, the food tasted oversteamed. The service was friendly enough as long as you don't get stuck near the bar as happened to us the only other time we visited. After sitting there for 20mins with no trolleys willing to push thru the queue of people trying to get in, we left.
This time we were sitting in the 'right' area but almost wished we weren't. Cheap enough, but only because there wasn't really much we wanted to eat.

Must Have Been a King of a Bad Day
Re: previous posting, try it again. I recently moved from Sydney to Brisbane and had an outstanding yum cha locally. King of Kings is the only one in Brisbane that has come close. We worked this out through trial and error. My husband and I go there every 2-3 weeks, have always had great food and friendly attentive service. Maybe they were just having a bad day, give them another go.

King of Nothing
To put it simply ... hopeless. The worst service I've experienced at yum cha and worse still, the food did not come close to making up for it. Do yourself a favour and give this place the miss.
