Brothers Franco Guida (chef) and Giovanni Guida (owner) run this inimitable Italian restaurant that any Italian mother would be proud to eat in. They have worked here since '87, and eventually bought the business in '96. On one wall is a broad mural depicting a sun-washed view of Abruzzi, in central Italy, from which come the brothers Guida. Brick archways and continental mementos complete the look.
An extensive menu taking in nearly every archetype of risotto or pasta under the Abruzzi sun is awakened in places by unique dishes. One is a simple but effective dish of king prawns with red capsicum, onion, chilli and tomato in a white wine sauce on a bed of rice. The other is a tender eye fillet with oysters and a mushroom sauce, a sort of reef and beef of a different colour. Italian cantos sing along, while the waiters buzz about with immaculate manners and low bows.
