It's no surprise that this elegant venue has becomes such a popular place to tie the knot or hold a function. Perched on a hilltop overlooking the picturesque Sunshine Coast, the bright and spacious restaurant serves up sumptuous modern cuisine. Head chef Simone Butler does the hinterland proud with her seasonal menu, drawing on fresh, local produce to create tasty offerings that manage to be cutting-edge contemporary and yet have a timeless quality.

Hinterland Surprise
Dinner at Key included a moorish spicy soup, marinated grilled goat kebabs, a delicious beef curry and a tangy lime infused grilled chicken dish. All of the dishes we tried had a certain familiarity about them but with a unique twist. There were combinations of earthy spices and blending of herbs which underpinned the authenticity of the meals. The restaurant itself is set in quite a large and sparse room which felt a little empty on a Wednesday night but with polished timber flooring and large glass areas it would only take a few tablesfor the ambient noise to fill the room. Service was swift & friendly. The owner stopped at our table for a short conversation after entree and the chef also joined us during our mains. Altogether it was a great dining experience and I can highly recommend it. Prices were very acceptable, wine list extensive, furniture pleasant and comfortable.

Disappointing.
Good service, good wine, average food was far too expensive. Can't recommend it.

What a little gem
This is a fantastic restaurant, with a new manager who has taken the reigns since July and is so professional and welcoming and willing to take the time to have a chat. We had a wonderful meal here - could not fault it at all. Stacks up against other 5 star restaurants on the coast. Have also had a friend go to a wedding here and could not stop raving about how great it was. I would highly recommend it to all.

An undiscovered treasure
My fiance and I have dined at the Key bar Maleny twice now and have been incredibly impressed both times. The food is superb, wine list extensive and incredibly prompt, friendly, professional service. We loved the contempory interior of the restaurant and will be back again.

What is the Key?
My wife and I dined at this new establishment with a group of friends. Although the service was friendly and obliging, we found that the vast interior of the large restaurant was a little off-putting, especially as it seemed to be a quiet night with not many other diners. With not many people inside to soak up the noise we were quite suprised that the "background" music was very loud. The food service was fairly prompt and punctual, although we were generally dissapointed with the overall product that was delivered - a quick review around the table found that at best the meals were "ok". Dessert was definately the best out of our three courses.
