It's hard for a venue to stand out on Chapel Street, with the over-abundance of loud fashion stores, thumping bars, high-class restaurants and sidewalk cafes. What is refreshing about Kazbar is that it doesn't really make an effort to out-market competitors with blaring music, fad food or a trendy facade. This isn't to say that it's not a stylish cafe; the gigs' posters, alfresco seating with wrought-iron chairs and tables, the purple shade cloth and warm wooden frontage are understated and inviting.
The food is simple and classic too, based around interesting variations on the staple pastas, pizza and risotto, as well as salads and a soup of the day. Try the duck risotto, prawn linguine, fusilli with mushroom or the Kazburger - a rich beef pattie with salad and fries. A visit for breakfast offers the usual selection of fry-ups, porridge, muesli and BLTs, or you can stop by for a quiet afternoon coffee and dessert of banana pancakes, Bavarian chocolate mousse, lemon tart or panna cotta.

Middle eastern confused
More a casual cafe' than a restaurant. A strange mix of dishes including pizza and steak with some Spanish and Greek dishes. The decor has changed since the Your Restaurant review above. The room is so narrow along the bar area that my chair was constantly bumped as people or waiters walked past. I was talked out of 2 entrees and a side salad for a 'bigger serve' barramundi main course. I got a piece of fish smaller than the size of my hand that was like two pieces of fish skin stuck back to back with no flesh in between served of a handful of string vegies. It would have barely made it as an appetiser in most restaurants but certainly not a $27 main. I saw my neighbour s pizza where the dough wasn't cooked, was flat and very salty. The staff were friendly and welcoming but knew nothing about service or taking orders. They failed to tell guests that meals like a Lamb Rack did not include anything else except the rack so did not offer side dishes. Most people left hungry. My wine glass when left empty was taken off the table without the offer of another drink. Four of the 24 meals ordered were gotten wrong or 'lost' by the wait staff who considered that to be acceptable.
