Kazbah On Darling

Good coffee isn't hard to find in Balmain, but Kazbah's Moroccan-inspired menu sets it apart from the pack. Open for breakfast on the weekends, it offers something a little more daring for the regular Balmain breakfast brigade, armed with their weekend newspapers. The bright interior is flooded with natural light and cheerful yellow walls, and it's just far enough up Darling Street to avoid the crowds.

great surprise
went here with 3 others for a birthday lunch on Sunday apprehensive of the decision after reading the taylarclark review but they must have gone on a really bad day. We were treated like we were the only ones there (the place was packed) and the food was delicious. Value for money was also excellent (we had the $35 banquet and I wonder how anyone could fit in the $45 banquet without a Monty Python scene). I recommend the taylarclark group give it another try. Very happy!

Fantastic
Had a great meal at Kazbah, and it was a really pleasant surprise. For once middle eastern food was given a bit of sophistication it deserved and not just the usual Lebanese fair trotted out all over Sydney. Fantastic flavours, nice decor, good atmosphere and friendly service.

COMPLETE RIP-OFF AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
I went to this restaurant with a group of 15 and we decided to get the banquet and at $45 a head we all expected to be leaving there full and satisfied - we were neither. Firstly, it was completely bizarre to me that we had to give credit card details and fill out a form to make the booking. Secondly, we asked to book for 7:30 and were told it was fine then got a phone call telling us we actually wouldnt be able to come until 8:30 which resulted in a few people backing out. We arrived at 8:30 and they were not ready for us and when we were eventually seated it took 40 minutes for us to even get some bread with dip, which was there idea of an entree. The dip came on a plate with 4 tiny pieces of chicken and four very small kafta balls. All the food was gone within a couple of minutes and so we asked for some more bread as we were extremely hungry since it was already 9:30. A waitress then brought us 4 triangles of bread (for 15 people), so we asked for some more and got four more. After asking a third time we got a decent bowl of bread, which they charged us for. The mains then came out - we had two small lamb dishes which came out uncut and without a knife, two platters of fish, two duck and some beef which had no flavour. I was amazed to see that this was all we were going to get for $45 a head. We received no salad and no vegetables and for me, i would have liked some traditional foods like shish kebabs or fattoush. I am a young woman and i was not nearly full when i left - so i am sure the men i was dining with were not satisfied. I have been to many other middle eastern restaurants and have ordered banquets before - I paid much less and left so so full and satisfied. This place completely ripped us off and i will not be going back.

Not what i expected
To make a long story short, i made a booking for 4 people, 2 weeks before the date. We got there on time, waited about 15 minutes to speak to a waiter to be seated, were told they couldnt find my booking.
They then seated us in a table for 2 near the door, and brought out extra plates and cutlery for the tiny table.
Then we ordered, it took another 45 min for our food to come out and a the chargrilled bread we ordered never arrived. Yet it was put on the bill!

I certainly wont recommend this place on a weekend, im not sure about week days

The real thing
One of the highlights on our brief visit to Sydney ... lunch at the Kazbah. The tasting plate of mezze was fantastic - great dips and wonderful salads all freshly made with wonderful fresh flavours. Main course slightly marred by lack of advice from our attendant about what would go well with what ... which brings me to the overall experience - apart from the service, it was fantastic. Great decor, great food, great atmosphere. However, we were invisible when we arrived and had to prompt for service a few times ... and it's not as though they were busy.

Favourite place for breakfast
It has to be the best place for breakfast in Sydney, different from the normal breakfast you have every day, more like half Mediterranean and half Morrocan, service is up and down depending on who's on the shift, but we don't care, we always come back for the food.

Excellent breakfast
I went to Kazbah for breakfast with my friend and I ordered the breakfast tangine. I never had Moroccan breakfast before and it's excellent! One of the best breakfast that I ever had. You must come to this place and try. The place is very nice and service is quite good. I definitely will come back again soon.

WOWOWOW
Wow, really this was the best meal I've had in Sydney in such a long time! The food is just out of this world, not only in flavour but in presentation as well. The desserts are NOT to be missed! Everything about our evening was perfect, the staff were attentive without being intrusive, the cocktails unusual but VERY effective, and the bill not something that made my stomach turn.

I have already booked my next dining adventure there for next week, my mouth is drooling already at the thought!

Just great!

Best Breakfast in Sydney!
Take my advice. Get a group of 10 friends together and book a table at Kazbah for their weekend degustation breakfast. Just make sure you haven't eaten for 3 weeks previously 'cause the servings are HUGE! At around $25 per head, it's gotta be the best value breakfast in inner Sydney as well.
This a real treat especially when friends from interstate (or overseas) visit. NOT TO BE MISSED!
