The subtle spices of Nepalese cuisine lend their aroma to the many rooms of this old Queenslander. Traditional floor seating adds to the authentic atmosphere, as do the dishes bursting with incredible flavours.

Delicious food, great service and a relaxing place for Sunday lunch
We have always wanted to try this place (take note that it closes on Friday!) so we went on a Sunday for lunch. We were the only customers there so it was very peaceful and relaxing. The restaurant has a very calming atmosphere. My partner enjoyed that part a lot. Service was great - our waiter was always smiling and attentive to our needs.
Food was fresh and flavourful though the portion could be bigger for the price we paid. For starter, we had the "Poleko kukhura" which is, according to the menu - Grilled marinated tender chicken pieces in aromatic spices with yougurt served with Nepali peanut sauce. The chicken was really tender but there were more salad leaves (which was not in the menu) and the serving was so small we definitely will not order this again.
For mains, we had the medium Mountain lamb curry and the mild Goat curry - both highly recommended! Both lamb and goat were really tender and delicious. We really enjoyed the mains.
We will come back for the ambience and food but will skip the starter and drinks. Not sure about the desserts.. maybe will try another time.

Excellent food and service!
We will definately be going back to this place!! The food was fantastic, 2 of the girls I was with are vegetarian and the restaurant catered for this perfectly. The portions were great, we were given more than we could eat (we still ate it all, couldn't resist) and the price is very affordable. We were expecting to pay much more than we did. The lady that was serving us was fantastic and very knowledgeable, nothing was too difficult and she was very friendly. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, very warm and welcoming. We were talking about the food the next day so it really made an impression on us. Thank you Kathmandu Newa Chhe'n for a great night. We will absolutely be returning again very soon.

Delicious traditional Nepalese, if you like Indian you should enjoy it!
Our group consisted of 8 people so we ordered a selection of meat, chicken, fish, pizza style breads and entrees to share. We found the dishes to be very tasy and filling with the bill coming in at around $25 per head.. unfortunatley there were plenty of leftovers!
The staff are friendly and polite however there is a definate language and culture barrier that affected service levels. We werent offered ice buckets (had to ask) and even then only one would be brought out until we'd ask for another. I think you need to be specific when making a request from your waiter/waitress here.
Overall the place is a good cheap eat, has great tasting food with service that is not 5 star but still friendly.

Mate you need to get out more, obviously never been to a five star dining experience in your life!, I would call that casual dining with no real bang for the tastebuds!

Perfect Meal - 5 stars
Im not sure about the other posters however the meals we ordered were suburb. I dragged my Girlfriend along even though she is a very meat and veg style of girl however I was extremely happy to say she also LOVED it.
We started with the Tibetan Bread and Mosos which were amazing and ordered the mountain lamb and a creamy fish curry for our mains. The lamb we ordered with a side of yoghurt which complemented it perfectly.
We had coffees (which were perfect - latte) and a traditional nepalese tea which was also very nice on the pallet.
All in all, 5 star meal, no complaints. Oh and the staff, absolutely 100% patient polite and very helpful.
Definately recommend to anyone wishing to try out Himalayan/Nepalese cuisine.

Im still hungry, where's the rest?
Upon arrival table was ready outside next to the warm heater on a cold windy night, Staff are friendly but only appear to be there to take your order and thats it. Ordered four dishes, Tofu, Sherpa Chicken, a Beef dish and the fish all ordered Medium.
All four dishes lacked flavour and mild not medium spice as ordered but this is more than likely because the food is traditionally cooked.
If your looking for a menu thats full of flavour you will be disapointed with subtle tasting food. Serving sizes are below standard (small) all four of us were still hungry afterwards, if it were not for the mass amount of steamed rice it would not have been filling, and to be honest $17.00 for a main of this size I feel is over priced. If I could make some suggestions, larger main size dishes, all the mains we ordered were entree size. I also feel the entrees are priced too highly for what your getting considering the costing for this food would be extremly low. If this restaurant wants to be more successful it needs to be competitive with the market of which other similar food can be had at Indian Restaurants around Newfarm, and all of which have much larger servings for the value of money paid.
As the previous reviewer said."There was nothing 'bad', but in equal measure there was nothing to make it enjoyable".

Amazing first time, even better the second
We got take outs from this place end of last year, and were blown away. We had one chicken dish and one vegetarian dish and both were just so tasty and flavorsome. We recently went back with a group, I had talked this place up, and was nervous that it would be a let down second time round... but it was better! The service was great, we were greeted as we walked in, we couldn't make up our minds where we wanted to sit and kept on moving and they just laughed at us and were very obliging. We ordered a series of dishes and all were amazing, the meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, the flavors unique and made your taste buds dance. And the Sherpa bread, although more pizza-like texture than usual, was just beautiful. I can not fault this restaurant, we love it, our guests loved it and will recommended to anyone!

Not tempted enough to go back
The smells emanating from Kathmandu Newa Chhe'n were enough for us to change our plans and pop in for a bite to eat. After being shown to our table we were asked to leave our shoes at the counter, and walk back through the restaurant (barefoot) to take a seat. We sat on neat cushions on the floor in a well presented room. Our waiter was quiet and difficult to understand, but very polite and well presented. Unfortunately, after showing us to our table and giving us the dinner menu, he disappeared for 15 minutes without bringing us water or taking our order. The restaurant was empty, and we could hear staff chatting outside our window. The food arrived in a reasonable time after ordering, though our entree arrived at the same time as our main. I had the grilled chicken strips with salad, which was tasty and well presented. My dining companion ordered some sort of potato balls in a tomato-based sauce, which was a good sized serve though quite mild in flavour. Nice, but not as mouthwatering as what we'd anticipated from the smells. Though the food was good and well priced, we won't go again because of the service. There was nothing 'bad', but in equal measure there was nothing to make it enjoyable.
