The enormous Kam Fook in Chinatown always has a large group of people milling around outside patiently waiting for a table. Now some of the overflow can jostle for a table at Kam Fook in Westfield Bondi Junction. Conveniently located near the cinemas at the northern end of the metropolis-like shopping centre, this mini Kam Fook has yum cha trolleys trundling till 3pm daily, with a menu full of delicious Chinese treats available for the rest of the day.

Certainly not what it used to be
i have dined at Kam Fook before, but not for several years. In Sydney for Christmas so thought i would have a reliably good Chinese meal without having to travel in to Chinatown. I was very disappointed. The service remains good and attentive and atmosphere pleasant. However, the food at Kam Fook was very poor and certainly not worth the prices charged. Many suburban chinese cafes are far superior to the food served here.

I have been to Kam Fook at least 20 times with my Chinese partner. We always find it the best Chinese cooking outside of Chinatown and surprising well priced. While not cheap, it is definitely not overpriced like many of the bad excuses for Chinese cuisine put forward in many Western attempts to reproduce these dishes.

nothing particularly special
I've been to Kam Fook a couple of times for dinner - not for yum cha - and I have to say that I never found it anything to write home about. The service is definitley attentive and the food is on par with lots of places in Chinatown - but the atmosphere is just like a big barn. Some of the dishes seem overpriced as well.
