This family-run eatery, located close to Newtown Station, dishes up authentic Greek cuisine in a taverna-style interior. All the recipes used here have been passed down through the generations, so the lamb souvlaki, moussaka and loukoumades taste just like mama used to make them. The set menus are a popular option with those who want to try a little bit of everything, and diners can also indulge in the Greek version of yum cha, called mezedes, which is available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Kafenes is not only fabulous, it is consistently fabulous !
I first went to Kafenes on its opening night over 9 years ago. I have regularly gone every month since. I have just booked a large 40th birthday dinner for a greek friend (so you know the food has to be authentic and great - and it is).

a great night
I went and had a lovely meal with friends and really enjoyed my night out. The food was great and the sweets at the end of the meal were just amazing. Apparently they have just opened the next door place and they offer a wide range of sweets. The service was very good and the lady that served us was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone, its worth a visit and you will certainly go back again and again, as i am planning to (i've already booked a table for next week).

I can't believe I just discovered Kafenes
Kafenes took me back to my hometown of Thesaloniki in Greece. From entree to dessert each mouthful aroused the pallet of my tongue. Our entire table was gobbsmacked by the authenticity of each Greek dish. If you're looking for the tastiest Greek cuisine, i urge you to reserve a table at Kafenes and promise you wont be disappointed!

Superb Greek dining experience
Kafenes is without a doubt, one of the best Greek restaurants in Sydney. Family run, Kafenes serves superb traditional dishes that some of my Greek friends say is even better than their own mothers' cooking! Try to dine at Kafenes when there are no shows on at the Enmore Theatre down the road, otherwise you will find the place absolutely packed out. Every time I have been to Kafenes, the food and service have been nothing less than excellent. A great dining experience.
