We'll be back!
Since the other reviews for Kabuki are quite old I thought I would share the great experience we had on the weekend. We attended the 8pm sitting for the Teppanyaki bar and, other that being told to go elsewhere and have a drink as they had not finished the 6pm sitiing when we arrived at 8, had a thoroughly enjoyable night. The food was superb - the bugs and scallops were a particular highlight but everything on our set menu was cooked to perfection. (Note on one of the other reviews: ALL the chefs were Japanese on the night). We found the service very attentive, the waitress remembered our drink orders and never left us too long without a drink. The usual Teppanyaki show of having to catch things as they are thrown at you was fun and entertaining. I think you might feel a bit left out of the atmosphere if you were a la carte dining. All in all it was a fabulous meal and a great night. Oh, and don't wear anything you are not prepared to get raw egg on...especially if you hand-eye coordination leaves a little to be desired.

Great teppanyaki experience
I took my husband here for the first time and had the $70 set menu. The food was absolutely amazing but like most Japanese restaurants the staff are fairly scarce when ordering drinks and getting seated.
The cooks are mostly Australian - so try not to be disappointed when your chef is not Japanese.
Overall this place is about the experience of teppanyaki. You really need to be in the mood to interact - it's definitely not a quiet romantic place!
But the food is amazing. Will definitely be going back.

Just the thing for a celebration
I hosted a small party from work at Kabuki; It was an unqualified success. The lively ambience of the busy room combined with the superb food offerings made this a night to remember. The teppanyaki Moreton Bay bugs were heavenly. All our party left very happy and I'm certain we will all be back. Kabuki is a highlight on the very mundane and average restaurant landscape in this city.

Disappointment
Noisy and poorly decorated, this restaurant is more suited to groups looking to be entertained around a teppanyaki grill, rather than couples or those looking to enjoy conversation around a good meal. The service was poor, the dishes expensive for what you got, and overall the room was too bright.
