Visit Juliette's for Lovers of... gelato, coffee, cakes - and you quickly realise why customers and staff can't wipe the smiles (and chocolate) off their faces. Just try to taper the joy when you combine that much freshly ground coffee, tastebud-prickling gelato - made on-site daily using authentic Italian recipes - and homemade chocolate mudcake with real chocolate ganache.
Positioned on the corner of Gregory Street and The Strand with a magnificent banyan fig tree providing a natural umbrella for patrons, the tropical beachside scenery, although stunning, could almost fade into the background once a lovingly made mouthful of Ferrero Rocher gelato touches your tongue. Other gelato tantalisers include coconut; pistachio; and traditional vanilla, but there is also an assortment of summery fruit flavours: think green apple; passionfruit; and strawberry, all made with real fruit - a kilo of it to be precise - and there's no doubt you can taste it.
Also on display are an array of sweet treats, 95 percent of which are home-baked, such as lumberjack cake, beetroot cake, rhubarb cheesecake, baklava and an extensive range of biscuits and slices. As well as appealing to sweet-toothed patrons, Juliette's also attracts members of Townsville's morning exercise crowd. Those more savoury-inclined usually go for the full-bodied coffee complete with Bircher muesli, or maybe a Benedict croissant and freshly squeezed juice, but hours later can't resist returning for a gelato, or perhaps another coffee... and some cake...
