A certain degree of relief comes at the mention of a seasonally changing menu: first, it means the ingredients will be fresh, and second, that the menu will be thoughtful - all of which is true of this great little pub bistro. The weekly food promos here are arguably the best you'll encounter at any hotel. The chicken schnitzel burger borders on gourmet, while the full-flavoured haloumi burger is a vegetarian triumph; it beats a tofu burger hands down. If you're after something more filling, an extensive array of mains will do the job, from the imaginative lamb cutlets (stuffed with pate and wrapped in puff pastry - divine!) to twists on old favourites such as chicken kiev stuffed with camembert or the Swiss-style pork chop filled with ham and cheese, crumbed and served on mash with apple sauce, gravy and American mustard.
