Bustling, lively and bursting with locals in the know, Jolly's, as it's affectionately known, is a hugely popular Norton Street spot. Sure, it's not the place to come for a candlelit dinner for two, but for great cafe breakfasts, authentic Italian dishes for lunch and dinner, coffee that regulars swear by and extremely reasonable prices, this is a winner with many. The staff are as much a part of this place as the furniture, and many locals come for a chat and a catch-up as much as for a meal or coffee fix. For its good vibes and good food, this is one not to miss.

Very Disappointing
This is the third time I have been to Jolly's Cafe and on the first two occasions for dinner where I was very impressed by the service, price and food was great. Today I went there for lunch and possibly had the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. We were halfway through our entree when our mains arrived and were literally plonked on the table. When I told the waiter that we weren't ready for the mains yet, she asked if she should take the mains away and "keep them hot" conscious of the attitude I was reluctant to let the food out of my sight so I told her to leave it on the table. The food was well below average and I suspect cooked by a different chef to the evening meals. The seafood platter was smothered in a bland sauce that smothered the flavour of the seafood. The boscaiola wasn't worth eating so we left most of the mains on the table very reluctantly paid the bill and left never to return.

Great food, fantastic staff
I've been here a few times now, and I'm always impressed with the food, service and cost! It can get noisy, but it's worth the extra noise! The garlic prawns are to die for, the gnocci gorgonzola is fantastic whilst the biscotti is all you really need for dessert. The only thing that lets the place down is that the meals don't always arrive at the same time and the pace of the courses can be fast - but if that's all I have to complain about, it's gotta be a good place to go!
