Dining at Jim's is a leap of faith in many ways. There are no menus and the same dishes are not always guaranteed to be available; however, what is guaranteed is a memorable night of authentic Greek flavours.
Let the staff guide you in your selections at this traditional Greek taverna. Start things off right with a traditional saganaki and some dips (the taramasalata, if on hand, is a particular treat), and let the evening's culinary experience roll on from there. The food and bustling atmosphere at Jim's is just made for balmy summer evenings under the stars or snuggling up in front of an open fire in winter.

Sensational
I absolutely love this restaurant and frequent it atleast twice a month. The waitors are always sensational and always are friendly and helpful. The food has always been great and absolutely love their meat dishes, calamari and souvlaki. As one other reviewer wrote, the best galaktembouriko this side of Greece for their dessert!

good old simple greek food
Hadn't been to jims for years and went with friends to check it out for my daughter's upcoming christening. The downside of having a function there is you have to BYO alcohol. In terms of dining experience, great to see it has not changed - this place is a melbourne institution. Yes, the place is loud and noisy; there is no menu and the wait staff may come across as being abrupt - LOVE IT! Just like being in Greece. The food is good old simple greek fare - the saganaki and blue eye were excellent; galaktobouriko is one of the best; We asked for an extra piece of galaktobouriko and our waiter told us it was "on him". If you want modern greek australian cuisine, then go to one of the newer establishments in melbourne, which have been highly overrated. Our waiter was excellent and had a brilliant sense of humour. At $42/head for the banquet, we rolled out of there. Going again tomorrow night to try more of the seafood. This place rocks!

Disappointing!
Shamefully decided to have a bday dinner at Jim's for my partner last night. Booked for 20 people. Were put in an awkward corner with very little space & no ventilation! The waiter assigned to our table was an absolute kill-joy. Had no personality and was very rude. Made everyone feel awkward. We felt as though we were burdening the staff the entire time. Food was nothing to rave about. Very average and far too little for the number of people. The total cost of the evening was near $900 so you would expect some decent service. The waiter couldn't wait to get his hands on the bill money and in fact did not trust that there were adequate monies given!! Obviously no tip left. I will not ever go back nor will I recommend this place to anyone in future. A real disappointment. Not exactly the atmosphere for a fun birthday where loads of money is spent.

Jim's May '08
I didn't like the fact that there was no menu - they only cook a very small range of dishes and they cant even do that well. Our lamb was average and arrived in a pool of oil; the calamari was oily, tasteless and rubbery; the salad was completely average. This place didn t even have the traditional Greek lemon roasted potatoes. $100 for 2 people - huge rip off for this standard of food.

Rubbery blue eye
I was really excited about going to Jims! But we waited 10 mins for a menu and after we had hailed down an overly busy waiter, we were told there was no menu, and we were rushed through what was being served on the night. We opted for dips, chargrilled octopus, saganaki, scallops, lamb skewers, blue eye cod, a salad and some house white, the only white available. The dips were nice a refreshing start, but everything else on the table including the house wine, was overcooked and of a very low standard. The salad was covered in oil, with no sign of any acids. Our bill was $116 and we were disappointed.

Uncomfortable
Went there for New Year's Eve. Although the food was ok and the service was friendly, the atmosphere lacked from what I expected a Greek tavern would be like on New Year's Eve. I found for the amount we spent on the little food that came out, it was too pricey. The room was too hot and lacked air, something to consider if going in summer.

Pretty good, but pricey
We went there for my bf's birthday and decided to go for whatever seafood dishes the chef felt like cooking for us. The food was great, the service was good but we were shocked when we saw the bill. I guess it's because somewhere in a restaurant review we read says it's not one of the posh places. The place doesn't look like one of them either, but the bill said it was.
