In a pub that has three bars and a drive-through bottleshop, you'd be mistaken for thinking that the Karama Plaza Tavern is all about the beers. Well, not so, as plenty of pub regulars and hungry locals drop into Jilvies Bistro for a hearty Aussie feed for lunch and dinner.

What a Difference Wayne Makes
Its obvious Jilvies Tavern has had a major shake up from its management. The Kitchen staff, the menu and the wine list have had a make over. Whilst the food would not rival the more up-market 'pub grub' establishments in Mitchell Street, Jilvies has come a long way since November last year. We ordered the Barramundi with the garlic prawns topping and the Spaghetti Bolognaise. Although the meals are served on unheated plates, the food is served piping hot, which is to my liking. The Barramundi fillets are placed atop of a generous portion of tasty chips. The garlic sauce is very appetising although at $29 I would have expected perhaps a few more than 4 prawns. The accompanying salad is very well presented with a delicious dressing which tops off the dish. The Spaghetti Bolognaise was of a generous potion and from all accounts was up to my Wife s expectations. A nice bottle of dry white from the extensive wine list rounded off the meal. (Now if only something could be done about those dreary dark timber walls.) All in all the celebration of our first meeting at this establishment 11 years ago was very enjoyable.
Thanks Trish & Wayne.

All is not well at Jilvies
This bistro has had its share of ups and downs and at the moment its having a down. Living in Karama, my wife and I have enjoyed our meals here, in past years, however things have once again slipped. The waiting time is as much as an hour for a basic steak and veg, and the bistro was barely 1/4 full.
The food, when it finally arrived was very poorly presented and the 'chefs' imagination does not go past, in my opinion, using frozen vegetables. Our garlic bread did nothing to enhance the whole dining experience. We also noticed a dramatic cut in the wine list selections.
