The demulcent interior and ambience make the Jewel of India a pleasure to visit. The menu favours northern Indian cuisine, and each dish is a delight. There is a pre-structured option for those who have difficulty choosing, and it's likely that you will.

Not bad
Arrived after 1:00 pm. Restaurant was quite deserted except for 3 other guests at another table. The guy at the reception (who was often on the phone) was also the waiter. We chose a table by the window. Bollywood music followed by droning sitar music exuded from a mini-stereo player in the corner.
Mango lassi & rose lassi drinks for my wife and daughter arrived soon after ordering. However, the spicy tea that I ordered took some time to arrive, and felt warmish rather than hot when served.
The lamb biryani dish tasted spicy and yummy. The Dum Ka Ghost Beef was mild and reasonable to the taste buds. The accompanying plain rice was okay, but the naan lacked the fluffiness of a tandoor baked naan.
Overall, it was a relaxed, unhurried lunch. Service could have been swifter and hospitality more cordial. Otherwise, a pleasant place to dine in Manuka. Prices quite reasonable.

Blase
You can't eat the great decor at the Jewel but at least some snappy service service would make up for a pretty indifferent performance from the kitchen. The food lacked the touch that suggested it was anything but being ladled out of pots. 2 hrs 15 mins for two entrees and three mains and approaches to the floor staff met with excuses and indifference.

Mixed response
The only good thing was the food but we had to get a couple of dishes reheated as they were served luke warm. The service and ambiance weren't great.

Good food
The food is very good, especially their butter chicken. The servings are a bit small but it's alway good if you have a large group to do the banquet.

One of the better Indian resturants
I have been here a couple of times and have never been disappointed. Definitely one of the better Indian resturants in Canberra. Recommend the Malai Kofta.
