Practically unmissable on Barkly Street (just look for the red-and-white "Jerry's" billboard and you're there), this old-fashioned milk bar and cafe is a nostalgic favourite recognised by many a loyal local. It's not only that the famous lolly counter is filled with classic sweets and chockies from a bygone era (though this is a major drawcard for little and big kids alike), but Jerry's stands up as a cool and laidback cafe suited to lazy newspaper reads, jovial catch-ups with old friends, and special-treat outings for the littlies. And of course, the eggs brekkies, croissants, sourdough toasts, pancakes and milkshakes make the morning - and whole day - that much better.

Some attitude with that coffee?
Dropped in for a coffee and was looking forward to finding a friendly, local place for coffee/brunch as my family and I are new to the area. The coffee was good and it definitely has a fun atmosphere, but could have done withoout the attitude from the barrista. The barrista mis-heard our order the first time, rolled her eyes when I corrected the order and then gave me a whole lecture about how she doesn't "understand the whole skim-milk coffee thing..." and how "In Italy they would never make a skim-milk latte." She looked so young I'd be surprised if she'd ever been to Italy or could find it on a map. The skim-latte was actually good when I got it, but it would have been a whole lot more enjoyable without the attitude. I know some places occassionally don't serve skim-milk coffees, but then they put a sign up to inform customers and there's no need to lecture your customers. It was disappointing for my family and I, as we're new to the area and were looking forward to finding a kid-friendly local. We may give them a second chance as it does look inviting. But snobby, precocious staff leave a bad impression. And there are so many other good choices in the area to try too.
