Jackies broke a few hearts in Bondi when it closed, but Bondi's loss has been Paddington's gain with the much-loved restaurant moving inland. The Paddo site faces the chic boutiques of Glenmore Street, lending a subtle fringe of luxury to the laidback cafe-style ambience. The cafe includes an intimate, sandstone-lined space with long benches and a communal table, a large courtyard and, unexpectedly, a sushi bar. The bar itself is a remnant from the old Jackies site, given new life as an off-shoot of another Bondi favourite, Raw Bar. Raw II serves up sushi and sashimi for the cafe customers and in little parcels to go. Back in the main kitchen, chef Giovanni Favorito produces a modern cafe-style menu with more than just a hint of Italian.
