New to Bourke Street in 2009, Izakaya Hachibeh combines the key elements essential to any authentic Japanese "izakaya": delicious drinks matched with tasty tapas accompaniments. Yes, you'll find sake aplenty, including a slew of imported Japanese varieties, matched masterfully to the selection of sushi, sashimi, tempura, noodle, soup, seafood, vegetarian and meat dishes available in tapas and main sizes. This effervescent eatery has a loud and lively style, echoed in the bright red and yellow colour scheme, making it a good choice for a garrulous group gathering.

Really nice food at great prices
I went to Hachibeh for the second time last week and I must say I enjoyed it alot. The first time I went last year I was a bit undecided but this time round, the food was all really good, prices very reasonable including drinks with Asahi draft only $6 and a small bottle of house sake around $5 from memory. The highlight had to have been the eggplant stuffed with chicken mince which was really great, but I couldn't fault any of the dishes which were all really fresh and tasty. I have been to most Izakayas in Melbourne now and this one would be in the top half of them. It's a good, authentic izakaya.
