It's Thai, located in the unlikeliest of settings for a restaurant, next to a dry cleaner, bakery and fish and chip shop, is a real hidden gem. The menu has a great variety of dishes on it and plenty of specials as well - the garlic chilli tiger prawns come highly recommended. It's Thai is quite small, only seating around 50. This in itself is not the worst thing in the world, although it can get a little noisy at weekends. Bookings are essential as this place is astoundingly popular for a restaurant that doesn't advertise - it's generally known through word of mouth. Prices are quite reasonable - though you may find Thai food cheaper elsewhere, it almost certainly will not be in the same league. The service is generally good but not always perfect - however the food certainly makes up for this fact.

Trendy Thai in the 'burbs
This is a great Thai restaurant, with subtle lighting and professional service. It's packed with locals so booking is essential.
Prices are slightly higher than the Newtown Thai restaurants, but it is a cozy place to go for a special occasion.
I recommend the creamy curry hor mok talay ($20+), served in a coconut shell. There were free rice refills.
