First drawn here by the coffee and cake back when it was Poppies Cafe, the regulars (who range from cyclists to local church-goers) were soon converted by the authentic, fresh pasta dishes and the pizza by the slice. While this is fast food in terms of speed, the resemblance ends there. The owners have scrupulously sourced premium-grade semolina flour for the sophisticated pasta-making equipment (imported from Italy) and everything is prepared fresh daily. This is quite a feat when you consider there are nine varieties of pasta made on the premises, accompanied by more than 20 different homemade sauces. This is aside from the gourmet pizza, salads, sandwiches, breakfasts and main meals such as the garlic cream prawns and eggplant parmigiana. Fans of the old Poppies can still satisfy their caffeine and cake cravings, perched on the bright high-backed banquettes inside or the shaded tables outside.

Good food- if your eyes are closed!
Italy Home Made is one of those places that everytime I go there I think that they must be having a bad day. Unfortunately it may just be the status quo... Tables and chairs in a disarray, dirty dishes covering most tables, newspapers and magazines scattered everywhere and very few tables actually wiped. The last time I visited Poppies the girls behind the counter were fighting over who was making the coffees and were making the cook deliver meals to the tables. No wonder our food took so long! The one thing is that the food is good. Totally overpriced but tasty. I really want to like Italy Home Made, I have been at least 4 times thinking things would get better especially considering its convenient location but my patience has been stretched and I am officially pulling the pin.

Great local spot!
If you are keen for a tasty, easy pasta, where you don't feel like getting dressed up, but don't want takeaway, head to Italy Home Made. It is great value for money, has fabulously fresh ingredients, and is quick! There is a fair chance you won't be able to eat all of the large serve, which means an instant lunch to take to work the next day. Bravo! While you are there, try their sensational coffee whilst you wade your way through their pile of magazines and papers.
