By now you've probably heard about long time St Kilda darling Cicciolina opening a little sister restaurant in nearby Balaclava. You've probably also heard it's called Ilona Staller, the real name of Hungarian-born porn star and part-time Italian politician Cicciolina, who was famous for giving parliamentary speeches a la Janet Jackson - one breast exposed.
As far as the menu goes the offerings at Ilona Staller are, like the name itself, a stripped back (pun not intended) version of events back in St Kilda. This isn't to say that Sig.ra Staller is a lesser version of her stage persona (in restaurant or real life), just that the approach is different; the respect for high quality produce that characterises Cicciolina is still just as evident here. It comes as little surprise then to find that Virginia Redmond is overseeing the menus at both restaurants, so expect her signature touches to be present throughout. The bar and dining area sprawl unfettered by restrictions in the art-deco space, and you can pop in for dinner as easily as you can for a tipple.
As a follow up to such a successful venue the premise of Ilona Staller is great one, but it thankfully isn't hamstrung by its own hook. The name states unequivocally that this place knows how to have fun, but the blessed absence of a signature puttanesca dish saves this place from falling into the realm of mere gimmickry.

Great Lunch Spot
This is a great place for lunch. The Spagg Mazza was fabulous and I will be heading back for more of the "Bee Stings" as soon as possible. Yum Yum!!
