Packed with modern and retro European artwork, panelled mirrors, imposing sculptures and extreme chandeliers, this cavernous space prompts a host of evocative adjectives: opulent, old world, bohemian and maybe a little burlesque. Even the ceiling space is not allowed to go to waste, with huge, gilt-framed paintings cunningly affixed.
The appeal of this place does not end with the decor, however, with the very reasonably priced bar (all the drinks are $5) and bargain restaurant prices making this a top dining destination. The specialty of the kitchen is pasta, however there are plenty of other meals on the menu, from their generous seafood basket to focaccias and other light meals.
If the eerie opera music, statues rotating from ceiling fans and dozens of stone eyes generate a little unease, take a seat on one of the many welcoming lounge settees for a relaxing glass of red, or a comforting slice of cake.
