After more than a decade, Il Bacaro is still serving balanced Italian meals with a modern influence to a mixture of local suits (grateful for the proximity of this consistent little gem for their business lunches) and romancing couples. The menu features plenty of seafood and game dishes, interspersed with simple and traditional Italian classics. The space is comfortable and subtle, with judiciously placed lighting that flatters the diner and allows one to cheerfully gorge on dishes such as the ever-popular calamari or a plate of carpaccio without feeling spotlighted.

Arguably the best entr?e I've tasted in Melbourne
Excellent first experiance here last night. Fine dining Italian food without the fine dining stuffiness and attitude.
The crumbled Jerusalem artichoke and pickled wild mushroom entr?e is worth the visit alone.
A good honest Italian restaurant.

Valentine's Day
We went to Il Bacaro for Valentine's Day dinner and were extremely happy with our dining experience.
The 3 course set menu provided an excellent array of options. Each of the dishes incorporated unique ingredients and it was hard to choose from the different and exciting options. I had the Wagyu Capaccio with Truffle Oil - Milk fed Lamb with Green Beans - Lavender Panna Cotta. Entree and dessert were wonderful and only in comparison was the main slightly disappointing.
Service was as expected. Staff were friendly and attentive. Our waiter had excellent knowledge of Il Bacaro's fantastic wine list recommending a beautiful Argentinean Cab Sav to match the lamb.
Most of all we really enjoyed the atmosphere. Given it was Valentine's Day, Il Bacaro did a great job of ensuring an intimate experience without going over the top. This restaurant epitomises dining in Melbourne with an emphasises on innovative dishes, great service whilst leaving all other pretensions aside.

Good food, unfortunately bad service
I was really looking forward to having good New Years Eve dining at this famous Italian restaurant in Melbourne. Food was good with very nice presentation, which I really liked. I wish I could get good service as some others got (waiter did put napkins on the lap for the others, not for us/we didn't get the typical Italian happy interaction as some others got/etc).

Amazing
Everything about this place is spectacular. The food, the service, the atmosphere....I have loved it for the last 7 years and look forward to loving it for seventy more! The ingredients to making this place as successful as it is, do not only come from the kitchen; from the moment you walk through the door you are transported to one of the best that Melbourne has to offer.
Cannot recommend highly enough.

Still My Favourite
Over the last 10 years, I have been lucky enough to have consumed numerous meals at Il Bacaro. Not once have I left feeling disappointed. The food is superb and service impeccable. I love the ambience and location of this restaurant. Last week we had yet another magnificent lunch. In the back ground I watched the Maitre de as he surveyed his tables like a hawk, ensuring glasses were full and his customers content. Yet another wonderful Il Bacaro experience.

Consistent
I have been coming to Il Bacaro for a number of years and the food and service hasn't changed, exceptional. The smart and articulate staff make you feel welcome as you enter this warm and cozy establishment. The food is consistently excellent, a couple of mainstays and must try are the semolina dusted calamari and the linguini with Moreton Bay bugs, also the salmon carpaccio is worth a mention.
Service was efficent without being intrusive. Il Bacaro I believe is one of Melbourne's jewels and will be for quite some time.
Highly recommneded.
