Huxtable

It never made sense to me that The Cosby Show was clearly a show about Bill Cosby, yet the family was called the Huxtables. Why not call them the Cosbys? Despite this apparent slip, the show went on to become the most successful US sitcom of the 1980s - and to inspire the moniker of Fitzroy's newest restaurant and watering hole.

The name may be a direct reference to Cosby's eponymous show, but thankfully that's where the similarities end. There is not a hideous Cosby sweater or shoulder-padded jacket in sight. Huxtable is a wholly modern space, with clean lines and contemporary design. Wooden trim marks the overall aesthetic but not enough to make it feel sterile or hamper your comfort. Plush leather chairs and padded banquettes are in ample supply.

The food side of Huxtable keeps things short and punchy with share plates focusing on simple flavours and quality produce. A quail terrine with golden raisin relish is a great way to start your meal before moving on to more substantial fare. A dish of braised white beans with piquillo peppers and parsley shows this kitchen is confident in the simplicity of clean flavours, while Korean barbecue pork ribs lets you know this menu is about diversity, too.

delish Huxtable
We loved Huxtable...delicious tasty morsels to be shared and savoured. We had eggplant tempura, crab dumplings, delish duck with figs, yummo quinoa salad, tuna & then panna cotta. Every dish was fantastic.

Service was excellent. Atmosphere low key and relaxed with all neighbouring tables happy fellow diners.

Can't wait to taste more of Huxtable's menu.
