The heights of dumpling obsession in Melbourne are about to reach fever pitch, and HuTong Prahran is living proof of this. The upmarket sister to Chinatown's stupendously popular Hu Tong Dumpling Bar, this much larger and fancier eatery provides an easy dining destination for guests at The Cullen, the hip, modern art hotel that towers above HuTong. For everyone else who's travelling to Prahran for a dumpling overdose, the promise of prawn or pork dumplings is bound to deliver the desired effect. The top-class international HuTong chefs also cook up a mean Peking roast duck if you're looking to diversify past the dumplings.

So... Disappointing
I'd been to Hu Tong for dinner a few times, and being a 'dumpling bar' I thought yum cha would be even better... and so I went with some guests from Sydney. WRONG! On every level... WRONG! 1. When booking I was given the standard yum cha options with slight time variation: 12:30 (out by 2:00) or 2:00. Given I hate to be time constrained I chose the later time... 1st mistake. 2. Arriving at 2:00, the place was half empty, so why insist that early customers must leave??? 3. We booked for six; the table was set for five. 4. Wine glass with lipstick from the previous customer. 5. Sparkling mineral water? Sorry; none left! 6. Arrived at 2:00; remember this is he restaurant's requirement; yum cha trolleys cease at 2:30... Yes; 30 minutes after arrival, it's all over! Pathetic!
