Good food. Nice people. Great spot.
front of house was very welcomiong and friendly and relaxed - and efficient.
look and style was quite nice and relaxed yet with understated style.
however, note to them: lose the table box holders for serviettes and flatware (except when setting up) ... espec with such simple tables, flatware and serviettes and wine glases dress the table and add both an elegance and help 'fill' the space .. and pls don't tie up cutlery - it is an unnecessary affection
we had a great table next to windows overlooking river and being elevated any traffic noise was non-intrusive
next, the menu is just a feast for the eyes ... having endured many really poor menus with limited selection of taste and range of entrees/mids/mains, humid's menu is a relevation (and that is w/o the extensive separate vegetarian menu) ... on quite a lengthy one page menu, there was probably hardly a thing i didn't want to try. which is pretty amazing.
(and not overly expensive at all. as mentioned, in recent years, i have experienced far less choice and range, and far far less quality food & presentation for same $$$.)
wine list is a nice range but is on expensive side. seemed to start around $40 or so. BUT. the wine we had which was more than we would normally spend at $50 was the greatest pinot gris, and one of best whites, i have ever had. and that is saying something. a second bottle would have been even better :-)
scallops (on risotto cake+pea mash++) entree very pretty and very tasty
other entree was a crab & fish cakes with a thai type salad/salse ... which i am told had excellent flavours .. i don't think i got a taste :-)
vitello tonnato. one of my own favs to do, but just can't get the veal these days. so was keen to try (or at least get spouse to try as she had never had a proper one .. yearling is just not same). veal beautifully done, beautifully presented, but just a little bit too beautiful. substance had been sacrified for style as pretty enough drizzle of sauce lacked punch and the bite of the anchovies it should have had and was more a much too cilivised alioli with the anchovies almost if not entirely invisible and much too little of it to boot. and too little veal for main i thought.
duck ravolo (note singular ... read dumpling)on bed of du puy lentils. all very nice flavours, but needed a sauce of some description to add colour and moisture (not that ravolo was dry). also instead of one very large dumpling three smaller ravoli would present and taste better. different if entree then have a (much smaller) ravolo but still with a sauce ... in fact could do this way as entree
coffee panacotta .. another fav/test although normally vanilla. very very nice taste and texture with a nice piece of pistachio bread/biscuit, and tasty toffee-fied drizzle of crunchy sauce
other desert was contoction of vanilla icecream, lemon curd, and saterne poached pear (and tuilles). and unfortunately little recall by partner .. the icecream was her focus, but must have been pretty good, because no complaints and empty plate :-)
total bill of $138 for the six courses incl wine. pretty good value, and over all really nice food, and ll the better for being so many tasty choices. we would maybe reduce wine prices a bit say $8 (to reduce 'sticker shock')and actually incr food prices say $2 per dish.
anyway, very long story short, we will be back (if only to taste some of those other great sounding dishes). oh and have another bottle of that outstanding pinot gris. that's voting with your feet as well. :-)
