Come prepared to be seduced by some seriously good food that doesn't necessarily have to break the bank. The restaurant portion of this hotel is fine-dining all the way, make no mistake there, but patrons are also welcome to indulge with something a little less formal in the main bar and choose from the excellent, if not gourmet, bar offerings.
The focus in both the bar and restaurant is on top produce enhanced by bold flavours. The bar menu relies heavily on seasonal produce and thus changes constantly, but it includes brasserie favourites such as beef burgers and fish and chips, cooked in an unusually skilful manner.
Head chef Ross Beeley tries to prepare everything in-house, going through the painstaking processes of curing his own meat and baking twice daily. The restaurant features such tantalising mains as the warming rabbit, bacon and prune pudding with carrot puree and the spectacular 18-month yearling rib eye for two with celeriac remoulade, confit onion and horseradish cream. There's also a selection of cheeses, sweets and sophisticated desserts to cap off your evening.

The Linc keeps giving
Had an excellent time with friends in this old pub. A friendly welcome and attentive service was complemented by great food. The wine list ticks all the right boxes but that can be a bit boring.

The Lincoln is a terrific pub
I have been to the Lincoln a couple of times in the last couple of months. It is a great place to catch up with friends out of the city. It is close enough to the city if that tickles your fancy later in the night, but far enough out to avoid nightclub dwellers. It's one of the decent pubs left in Melbourne that hasn't been overtaken by pokies, drink discount vouchers and young over-confident teens.
If you want a good place to drink and eat without pretention. The Lincoln is it.
