Quite the institution in Sydney's live music scene, this timber-framed art deco-inspired drinking den is a slice of old-school-Hollywood-meets-grungy-Sydney-bohemia tucked away unassumingly in a back street of Surry Hills. The name comes from the publican Doris Goddard, whose former profession as a Hollywood actor saw her appearing in 1950s movies with the likes of Katharine Hepburn and Bob Hope (in The Iron Petticoat). Duly, Goddard keeps mementoes of old Hollywood across the walls of the pub, while dropping by often for her home-brewed beer, which is ridiculously cheap for Sydney standards. On the food front, Hotel Hollywood keeps it simple with pies, chips, nuts, cheeses and other snacks.
