Along the meandering Missenden Road strip, Hoochie Mamma is in good company in that it's a cafe that serves smooth coffee and European-style fare. However, this is where the similarities end. Don't come here expecting wobbling bits or ladies doing the "hoochie coochie"; this space is much more refined, with chocolate-brown leather stools dotted around large, dark-timbered tables.
The centrepiece of the room, a patterned wall with a fierce caricature of a statuesque lady, brings a sense of muscle to the otherwise genteel space. The menu serves up such Mediterranean and Middle Eastern-inflected dishes as pizza with roast pumpkin, caramelised onion, feta, pine nuts and basil; and a spice-crusted lamb salad with tomato cous cous, currants, almonds and a garlicky mint yoghurt. There's also a hint of mod-Oz thrown into the mix with a prawn, pea, mint and parmesan risotto. This, of course (you need to keep in mind) is certainly not the traditional fare of hoochie man-eaters.
