Hickson Road Bistro sits underneath the Sydney Theatre at the redeveloped end of Hickson Road. The room is divided in two with a long banquette and small tables on one side and a long communal bar table lined with stools running parallel to the kitchen. Ideally situated for a pre-theatre meal, and open for supper on the weekends, Hickson Road Bistro oozes style and sophistication from the clean and simple decor to its seasonal, contemporary menu.

Still serving small meals
In agreement with the February complaint. Nice enough food but not nearly enough for the money. You need to purchase for a decent meal which means the cost comes in at over $40 per course.
Could explain why there are very few non-theatre customers

Nice food but tiny portions
Also a pre-theatre dinner for us, they served us in good time for the theatre event.
My salmon main with a mushroom ravioli (fresh pasta, handmade)was possibly one of the best salmon dishes I've had, but at over $30 I would have expected a larger portion. We also had a gourmet sald which was huge - but huge with salad greens unfortunately and not all the good ingredients stated on the menu.
Nice food, but not good value for money - capitalising on the captive 'audience', I think.

In a word: disappointing
We decided to eat here before a show at the Sydney Theatre.
At first we were disappointed by the uninspiring winelist. It got worse when we tried to order. We waited for so long I had to get up and walk over to the cashier to order a bottle of wine.
The menu was scant without a lot of choice, but reasonably priced. The food did come quickly.
The food itself was medicore and portions far too small (with the exception of the chips). Fortunately I had eaten at work before we came.
The service for the most part was unattentive. Also, the only bathroom facilities are part of the theatre. This was painful having to negotiate a few hundred people at the changeover of a show just to use the bathroom.

Hickson Rd Bistro
We dined before a show.I cannot fault the service (despite the rush) or the venue. The food looked good and tasted, bite-sized as it was, good.
I had the fish stew, which had a piece of fish, smaller than 2 match boxes, 3 undersized pipis and 1 decent oyster.($35) My husband had one pork chop. one of our friends had a duckling which was very small. When I wake up during the night hungry, I know it wasn't value for money.
