Halo

Halo is a trendy restaurant in one of Perth's riverside hotspots. Featuring warm timber decor, a lively buzz emanates from the diverse crowd. The wonderfully fresh modern Australian menu reflects the riverside location, with plenty of light seafood options. A full degustation menu is available for those seeking a special occasion meal, but for something slightly less indulgent, try the salmon degustation - salmon served four ways.

Halo slipping
The outlook at Halo is fantastic. The service is top notch and knowledgeable. Unfortunately the food is lacking in both flavour and imagination for the prices charged. I ordered MSA Beef ($37) cooked medium rare and while I understand the concept of resting meat, mine was served at room temperature which was unappetising. Others at the table agreed that the food was mediocre.

Best kept secret of Perth
We walked in and were immediately seated to a table with a view of the river and offered champagne. From the word go, the Halo had already impressed me. Being a vegetarian I did not think there would be many options I could choose from the menu and instead ordered three sides. The tomatoes with buffalo cheese, the pear, parmesan and rocket salad and the sauteed chat potatoes all off which had fabulous flavours that simply melted in my mouth. My partner ordered the lamb on a bed of garlic mashed potato, polenta, peas and bacon which he fully enjoyed. Each dish was presented beautifully and the portions were perfect.

For dessert we ordered the chefs selection of chocolate desserts which consisted of a sample of chocolate mousse, mint vanilla ice cream and a brownie all of which were simply divine!

But the most impressive part of this restaurant was the service. We had an absolutely amazing waiter who took care of our every need without watching over our shoulders as we ate. He cleared our entire table at once without having to come back and was friendly and polite.

The meal is well worth the price as you will enjoy an amazing night out with river front views and stunning service. We will definately be back.

Halo
Beautiful restaurant on the Swan. Superb, attentive, unobtrusive service. I was offered a drink and escorted to the bar while I waited for my friend. Food was sensational. We shared oysters (natural & vodka with lime) which were lovely. For entree I had the sashimi which was probably the best I've ever had. My dining partner had the souffle which she said was fantastic. For mains I had the fish with grapefruit & fennel salad. The fish had a lot of dark meat on it and could have been described as just a little dry but other than that it was sensational. My friend had the roasted tomato tart and was well pleased with that. Lovely special occasion restaurant (pretty pricey but worth it) with a casual atmosphere and extensive wine list (also pricey).

A magical night
My partner and I were taken to dinner at this wonderful restaurant by friends visiting from Germany and we will be back.

We were impressed from the start with the atmosphere, unobtrusive yet attentive service and the ambience of Halo. The views over the Swan to the city were an added bonus as was the elegant surrounds. There was no sense of rushing or a need to order quickly which gave us time to talk with our friends. We perused the menu and when the time came to order felt a bit spoiled for choice. I changed my mind a few times before settling on "a study of fish", which the waitress advised was the speciality of the house. When it came I could see and taste why. Delicate morsels of fish, all with different tastes and textures complemented by a very crispy champagne. My partner also had the fish, while our friends tried the chilli squid and the special of the day, grilled marron. Everyone oood and aaahed.

For mains my partner and I had the pork belly on kimchee cabbage. Just the right combination of crispy skin and beautifully cooked meat. We accompanied it with the balsamic salad and the witlof frisee - beautifully prepared and presented.

I passed on dessert but next time I will be trying "a study of chocolate".

While we were fortunate to be guests, we will be returning and recommending Halo to all our friends. Well worth a return.
