Good Clean Fun
It's not often you go to a restaurant and pay for the privilege of cooking your own meal, but at Great River it's all part of the experience. Each table has a built-in barbecue plate upon which customers cook their own personalised dishes. A buffet style selection of meats, seafood, vegetables, sauces, soup, salads and fried rice offers a broad range of tastes and flavours, with a small number of deep fried options for the not-so-adventurous. The self-serve style renders the staff all but invisible - they appear only briefly to adjust the barbecues when necessary. A bottomless cup of soft drink is available, or customers can line up at the small bar for a limited range of beer, wine or spirits. The decor is dated, but the casual ambience suits the relaxed, do-it-yourself style of the food. Overall a lot of fun, although it may take several visits to perfect the art of cooking Korean barbecue cuisine. What a pity!
