Grapeskin

With its uber-cool Manhattan styling, Grapeskin is unquestionably one of Perth's most hip and sophisticated spots to get a skinful of the white, red and sparkling stuff. Sitting comfortably beside its iconic big sister, The Brass Monkey, Grapeskin has earned itself an equally admirable reputation, winning the AHA award for 'Best Wine List' in 2003 and 2004. So, it's certainly the place to be wined, and with the well-practiced Steve Protti at the helm in Grapeskin's kitchen, it's also the place to be dined.

While the usual staple items can be found on the bar snack menu, including burgers, fish of the day and the famous Monkey's chunkies with dips, the contemporary menu will satisfy even the most discerning, wine-savvy suit. Think juniper-crusted kangaroo fillets, Japanese scallops, Tenderidge eye fillet and a cheese board. The difficulty will come in choosing which wine to accompany your feast - there are some 35 by the glass.

The Grapeskin
We had a function on a Sunday night so decided to have a late lunch before heading off. The Grapeskin was not busy so thought we would order a couple of dishes to share. The arancini was average, 2 small fried balls of rice with sauce (which is what you expect although some can be much tastier than others) and bruschetta. The bruschetta was one of the worst I have ever had - the bread was soggy and cold, it was loaded with garlic (and I like garlic a lot, and still thought it was loaded) and the purple onion was held together with lots of cheese. Disappointing and I doubt I will eat here again.
