Known for its hot and spicy cuisine, the dishes at this Sichuan eatery appear truly inventive to the uninitiated. Split over three levels, the restaurant is seemingly non-descript, but it's the multitude of flavours in the food that are the true drawcard.
A plethora of brightly hued photos of gastronomic delights dot the menu and, as this is a traditional Sichuan restaurant, dishes lean predominately towards the spicier end of the spectrum. To help guide tastebuds, meals are given a 'chilli index', with the hottest dishes earning three chillis. In many ways, Sichuan food is known for its ability to richly contrast flavours so that they truly explode (not necessarily in a profusion of chilli) on the palate. A dish such as the bitter melon and garlic is just one example of the melding of two seemingly opposite ingredients. There's also some wonderfully inventive dishes using offal, though patrons who gag at the thought of duck's tongue better steer clear.
